Product Description:
Carly Beth is quiet and shy -- easily scared and overly trusting. She's never seen such a great Halloween mask -- really scary, really creepy, and really life-like. She has to have it -- to scare those boys who tease and humiliate her all the time! And when she does get it, the mask is every bit as weirdly spooky as she had hoped it would be. But wearing the mask seems to be causing strange things to happen to her and other people. Can the mask -- the symbol of her revenge -- be the cause of it all? What strange powers could a Halloween mask have? Unwilling to give up the mask, or to believe that it could be evil, she keeps on wearing it -- only to discover one day that she can't take the mask off. Carly Beth and the mask have become one.

From Wikipedia (editors):
The Haunted Mask first aired on October 27, 1995 on FOX as a one hour special for the series premiere of the Goosebumps TV series. The special starred Kathryn Long as Carly Beth, Kathryn Short as Sabrina, George Davis as Steve and Amos Crawley as Chuck, and was directed by Timothy Bond.
It was subsequently the first to be released on VHS on March 1996. This video was very popular, ranking 4th in video sales a few weeks after its release and 75th in sales for the year 1996, more than any other Goosebumps video for that year. The video was rated 4 out of 5 stars in the DVD & Video Guide 2005 and was described as "a cautionary tale that will thrill viewers 10 and older" by Chicago Tribune reporter Scott Blakey.

I quite liked the two-part episode. The effects in the second part (the floating masks), while not brillant, added some pretty cool imagery. I also thought the portion where she scared Chuck and Steve by saying that she cut off Carly Beth's head was pretty tense. The episode for the Haunted Mask II was also pretty cool I think.

Man, this episode gave me the creeps. A mask that doesn't come off and you're like suffocating in there...

This was probably one of my first all time favorite Goosebumps book adaptation. Imagine trying to put on a scary Halloween mask and not being able to pull it off! It becomes your face now! Some pretty cool effects in this hour long episode. I also enjoy the sequels to The Haunted Mask original book. I plan on getting this Halloween episode on DVD soon, if available. Stine knows how to scare his readers.
