About Goosebumps Gold :

There were a total of 3 books announced in this "upcoming" new series in 2000 from Parachute Press, ones which only appeared on the series phenomenal illustrator Tim Jacobus's website and several marketing sites, but were sadly never actually confirmed and/or released by Scholastic Inc.

http://www.timjacobus.com/goosebumpsgold.html

Goosebumps Gold was originally one of the two new book-series by R. L. Stine that were planned to be released at the same time in 2000 (the other was The Nightmare Room by HarperCollins Publishers).

The promised titles were:

1. "The Haunted Mask Lives" - (sequel to "The Haunted Mask II")
2. "Happy Holidays from Dead House" - (sequel to the very first Goosebumps book EVER: "Welcome to Dead House")
3. "Slappy New Year" - (sequel to "Slappy's Nightmare" from the Goosebumps Series 2000)

But now the remarkable thing:

These 3 above mentioned, announced titles were indeed never published & released as "real" books as part of the new series, back then in 2000.

But if we look NOW at 2 of them: "The Haunted Mask Lives!" and "Slappy New Year", we of course recognize them (one title slightly changed, the other one, just remained exactly the same) that they actually rather were published, just some years later, as part of the new Goosebumps Hororland series from 2008.

"The Haunted Mask Lives!" - is of course: "The Scream of the Haunted Mask": viewtopic.php?f=8&t=52

and "Slappy New Year" - is , obviously ;) , just "Slappy New Year": viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17

So I my guess is that R.L. already had the plans and ideas of these 2 stories for Goosebumps Gold in his head, and already kinda outlined both of them on paper, so he had them on back-up, so he could remember and save them for later when he would wanna use them... 8-)

That's why I think and HOPE that R.L.'s is also working on (re-)writing "Happy Holidays from Dead House"; that would be so frickin' awesome! :D

Read all about it in this very interesting article from "Business Wire" in 2000: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m ... _58610544/

Someone asked Stine why these books were never published on Twitter (his response). HarperCollins was intending on publishing these books; however, in the end, they decided not to switch publishers and stay with Scholastic. Pretty interesting stuff.
